At that point, the only way to save the film, apparently, was for Amole to step down as director and Aamir to take over the reins. Differences developed between Amole and Aamir when the film's shooting started. Amole was the film's director and it was he who cast most of the actors in the film, Aamir Khan included.
The concept of this film was developed by Amole Gupte and his wife Deepa Bhatia. Noted artist Samir Mondal made three paintings for Aamir Khan for this film and did not charge anything for them. Legendary film director, producer, and actor Guru Dutt's younger sister and Kalpana Lajmi's mother, 75-year-old Lalita Lajmi, made her acting debut in this film.
